Astral projection

an older rant on the subject:

I posted this first long-winded rant on dragon-realms forums, though I saved it. I decided to update it a little bit more and post it again here.. I truely think many of you will find it informative and usefull.

for starters:

first, you must be a person who is able to relax very very well. you must be able to relax yourself into comfortable sleep. some people think projection is done while being awake, or sitting in a chair listening to music, and that may be true- but that is a different kind of projection and is extremely hard to learn for most anyone else except a person born with such a gift. what I deal with is full out-of-body projection, the kind encountered in a sleep state, so keep that in mind.

#1. lay flat on your back, with your arms at your sides, or folded across your chest. make sure you are in a position that allows you to get very comfortable.. loose clothing, etc. if you get an itch while you are doing this, it isn't a biggy just itch it and go back to your original position.
while you are laying flat on your back like this, breathe deeply in through your nose, while counting about 8 seconds. then exhale deeply, also counting at about 8 seconds. once you figure out about how long 8 seconds is, or once you find a comfortable time/rhythm to breathing, you won't need to count anymore, you can just breathe. if 8 seconds is too long are too short for you, go ahead and modify the timing.. the important thing is breathing in through the nose and out of the mouth. breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth affects energy centers a certain way, and it is also incredibly relaxing, as you will eventually find out.

so what you do, is essentially breathe this way, and in this position, until you relax enough so that you fall asleep. now, while you are doing the breathing to fall asleep, you want to keep sharply in your mind that you want to get out of body, and you also want some kind of plan as to what to do when you finally find yourself out... if you don't have a plan, you might just find yourself standing there with no plan, and wake back up right away. secondly, the most important time to do the technique, is either early in the morning after you have woken up, or mid-day at naptime, when you aren't too incredibly tired. the more energy you have when you fall back asleep with this technique, the better. (update: many people attempt projection during the night, after a hard day of work or school, or when retiring for the night. this has it's possibilities of working, depending on the person, but for me I find that lacking vital energy gives very poor quality projections, and it is best to attempt earlier in the day when you have energy.)

also, in order to really make sure you have a good chance for this to work, you should be reading books about astral projection, and familiarize yourself with what other authors have to say, along with affirming to yourself the constant desire to have an astral projection. see, in order to get this to work, you have to sort of "attack it from all angles". you have to be reading, wanting, desiring, practicing.. all at the same time, and consistantly, for at least a solid week. if you honestly do all of these things for at least 1 week, you have a pretty good chance of having some kind of experience, even if it is a paralysis experience.(the experience of being unable to move, or scream, yet aware) and if you do in fact get a paralysis experience, you should be happy as it is an indicator that your hard work is starting to pay off. the paralysises can be extremely frightening, and so can some of the other experiences, but again, if you really want to get out, you will have to face these fears.
(update: one of the major barriers to a successfull projection is the fear barrier. huge groups of people attempt good techniques, but always come up against some sort of barrier that prevents them from getting any further, and they can't seem to figure out what it is. in my experience, this is the ever fun-filled fear barrier. even if you think you don't have any fear, and seem to be able to relax, even in paralysis, you can have an unconscious fear of getting out and experiencing a completely new reality. one of the ways to wear down this fear barrier, is just to simply work at it for a long time. astral projection is usually not something easy, and it takes work. lots and lots of work. and as I will explain further, it often takes tricking the mind in order to get around certain barriers.)

again, I just want to emphasize that it takes "tackling it from all angles at the same time"... so in other words, the more you can do to fill your head with wanting astral projections, the better. see, when one fills their mind with a constant thing, the mind will begin to unconsciously help you out by putting effort and emphasis on that certain thing. a good example of this would be a person who has never read anything about projection, who starts reading a book about projection, and then suddenly has a projection experience. the unconscious mind can actually be triggered to give you the experiences automatically, and that's the cool thing. if you are one of the rare ones who can get the techniques to work, you can get your mind to automatically pop you out of body, and you won't even need to practice the techniques anymore in order to have projections.. you can just go to sleep as normal, and have them. Wink

as far as the astral goes, i've had quite a bit of personal experience with it, and a ton of reading to back up my personal experiences. i'm trying to think how I could best describe it... it is a plane that sits directly atop this one; it is just a higher frequency of matter. for instance, one time I set a large candle atop a tv in my room, then I projected out of body to try and knock the candle over to see if I could; when I finally got out and flew over to the candle, I knocked it over and heard it thump on the floor, but then when I woke up into ordinairy reality, the candle was still sitting there, untouched. so I think physical matter has what you could
call layers that are underneath it, that are of the frequency of the astral. if you have ever done photoshop you might be familiar with layers. another "layer" experience I had, was with my dragon soulmate ruby. I went to sleep in my grandma's room, and upon falling to sleep, found myself in a semi-paralysis state, sitting up inside my body. I was still "in the body" yet, as it is common, could move around and look around and see things in the astral. I saw ruby sitting to my right, and I reached over and stroked her down the back. within no time at all, she seemed to hop out and then come back into my room with two brownies. I found it very odd that ruby would attempt to feed me brownies in the astral, and I wondered how she had gotten them. I thought perhaps she had done some kind of food-magic to manifest them for me. later on, upon awakening into the normal world, I found out that there were two brownies left in the kitchen. evidently ruby had stolen the "underneath layers" of the brownies and brought them into the room- since then I have a good idea that this is how many beings survive, by stealing things that humankind produces in this manner.

as far as creatures out there, the astral planes are absolutely swimming with life; there are loads upon loads of strange and interesting looking creatures that swim around; I have seen them. there are also parasites that attatch themselves to other beings, and even people, and if enough parasites manage to get a foothold on a person, that person can become sick, or even die of strange things.

I have seen dragons out there approx. 15 times that I can recall. of those 15 times, about 7 or 8 of them have been my astral soulmate, a dragoness by the name of ashnarath, who I call "ruby". its a nickname that stuck. I have seen little dragons and perhaps baby dragons playing with energies that had collected in the corner of my room; they were biting them and poking them and pushing them around and stuff. our thoughts produce these energies, and in a funny sort of way, they can play with our thoughts like that. another time, I opened my nonphysical eyes just in time to see a huge white dragon head in my face, staring at me. I screamed and bolted forward, away from my body. the white dragon also bolted, evidently he was a pretty sensetive dragon, and/or wasn't expecting me to scream, and he fled towards the front yard. after I regained myself and realized that he was a dragon and not something out to get me, I tried to call him back so I could talk to him, but it was too late. so I woke myself back up. (updated: once, and only once, I have seen and known that I had an encounter with an angel, too. I was flying around in the astral, acting a bit cocky at my abilities, when a young girl dressed in a white robe and barefoot suddenly walked over to me. I said "what's your name?" to her, and she paused a moment and then said "journey home". I jokingly/cockily realized she was an angel and I said "oh, so you're one of those angels without a name hunh?" and she said "think about that" and woke me up. upon reflection, I think she was there for a at least a couple reasons: I was being too cocky and she wanted to tone me down and put me in my place a bit. #2, she wanted me to realize that angels are quite real, and introduce herself to me. #3 her name "journey home" has a double meaning, and seemed to say to me that in this life I am on a journey home, and getting very close to the end of a series of incarnations. perhaps this is my last human incarnation. #4 I think to this day she is a personal guardian angel.. and often when I can sense ruby around me, I can also sense what seems to be this angels presense.)

my advice to you, if you want to learn a bit about the astral, is to read william buhlmans first book "adventures beyond the body" and robert a. monroes 3 books. starting with "journeys out of the body," then "far journeys" and finally "ultimate journey".  it would probably be wise to read even more books on the subject, as there are plenty. do yourself a favor, and don't be like most furry/dragon/otherkin people who never educate themselves with books by the professionals. a lot of them think that they know so much that they don't need to do any reading, when they are denying themselves the one thing that could probably liberate them into some true knowledge. do yourself a favor and do some reading. get educated about it. especially if you plan on trying to do it yourself.

(update: some warnings. as far as my personal experience goes, and the experience of many professionals.. it is not possible to "snap your cord", or die while out of body, unless it is your time. there were a few times during robert monroe's projections when he was warned that he needed to go back to his body, lest he actually do die.. but again, he got very strong signals to go back, and it was made sure that he did not die before his time. there are many angels and guides around a person trying to do
these techniques, and they are there to assist in such matters as needing to come back. there is, however, some things I would like to warn you about. projection can radically change your life, for the good, but also for the bad, and I wish to explain.

if you are a person who has a fragile relationship with life; in other words, if you are an individual who has grown up with certain belief systems about god and the universe, and those beliefs have become very rigid... projection can "rock your world" and send you reeling. once you begin to discover things for yourself, the strong changes and evidences that support or contradict your belief systems can be very very unsettling. they can be unsettling enough to cause depressions, and psychotic disorders, even... but again, some things have a price. if you are an individual who is not scared to have your reality challenged, and wishes to learn intense things about the universe, then projection may be for you. doors are also opened during the seperation process and in the paralysis state, that once open, can often stay with you for your entire life. getting out of body can even open the doors in your mind wide enough that you find yourself becoming psychic, or sensetive to other people's energies and unable to stay in large crowds anymore; it can inflict lasting spiritual changes. another warning that I would give is.... if you do indeed develope a working technique to get out, and get out a few times.. you can create a permanent channel in your psyche that allows "getting out" experiences to happen automatically. in otherwords, once you learn a technique, you may never be able to get many good nights rests again.. because every time you fall asleep, you can find yourself being out there. if you are a person who has not been able to have quality projection experiences, but gets a lot of paralysis experiences or weird messed-up-reality experiences during sleep, constantly practicing techniques will often make these ordeals very permanent, and you can find yourself in a paralysis experience every night. if this doesn't bother you, then good- but for me, my astral adventures gave me a lot of very uncomfortable paralysises before I learned to relax in them.

one last and important warning that I will give: I repeat again that based upon my experiences and much professional evidence, it seems to be impossible to die in the astral before your time, HOWEVER: it is -very- possible to experience intense pain, and get into combative situations with other beings and forces out there. it is possible to encounter some very negative, powerfull beings out there, and take temporary wounds. these wounds will not manifest physically, but it is possible, for instance, to get wacked very hard in the leg while out and close to the body, only to reawaken within your body and have an ache in your leg. in my experience, the closer you are to the body during an attack, the easier it is to "take damage", although combative situations for me have been rare. in my own years of experience, I learned many combative techniques very quickly when out of body, and in later years when I was confronted, there was simply no challenge. either that, or the challenge was such that I simply ran, teleported, or flew away, instead of getting into combat. some people would ask "why don't you use your dragon form?" and I would say, well, 95.% of my projections happened in human form, and with the neo-like abilties I had developed, I didn't need anything other than human form. the few times in which I experienced my non-human forms, was for intense emotional and learning purposes of self discovery, not combat.

after repeated out of body excursions, one can develope "neo" like abilities, or even christ-like abilities which stem from opening the mind and removing much of the limitations that physical incarnation places. you can learn to flip upside-down while doing martial arts moves, for instance.. and you can learn to pick up large objects with your mind and slam them into people. given, these techniques take some time, but with a lot of experiences and practice, you shouldn't have to worry about fearing anything.. unless you encounter something truely ungodly powerfull, or unless you are a certain kind of individual. in those situations in which I ran into beings who were far too powerfull for me to handle, even in combat, angels came to the rescue and I often just woke up.

***
finally, there are -some- individuals who for whatever reason, I have not figured out completely why (perhaps they volunteered for a contract in such matters), but these individuals have extremely painfull nightmareish experiences within the astral. they find themselves in situations where they are unable to combat, and are dragged away into situations like alien abductions, operating tables,  and so fourth. for these rare types of people, out-of-body is generally not very fun. it is possible you could be one of these people, but again.. if you are, you would probably already have had such experiences, and wouldn't be too thrilled about getting out even more. if you are an individual like this, I would recommend getting some books like "ask your angels" and other books that are written by the forces of light. surround yourself with them and their energies, and over time I think you will find that the bad experiences will go away. particularly when calling on such forces as archangel michael, or the real ashtar command. (they are real, but beware so much of the commonly posted garbage about them on the net.)

one more re-explained note of importance: if a technique or 3 does not work for you, I wouldn't give up right away. the mind is a very tricky beast, and it isn't so much that various techniques will not work, but more a matter of if your mind will allow you to experience a projection or not. my own method was one way that I found to "trick the mind" and circumvent its vice-like qualities of holding me in the body when I wanted to get out. repetition and more repetition, and constantly hammering away at the mind with enthusiasm and new techniques is often the only way to get the minds vice to ungrip itself. it literally can sometimes take a "full german blitz" attack, coming from all angles, to finally get the mind to release and allow you to get out of body for the first time. this kind of assault on the mental barrier takes many angles to work, but the biggest is how you spend your time. you cannot go about your normal every-day life, living just like you always have, obvliviously, and expect 1 hour of doing a technique to work for you. you really need to spend some time meditating on getting an experience, do a lot of reading, and do a lot of practice. it took me about 1 solid month of hard practice, and reading, before I had my first success. one of the first clues to having success, is if your dreams change- if your dreams become more vivid, and longer, and you are able to recall details more, it is a sign you are making some progress. keeping a dream-journal is one of those attack-avenues to helping the rest of your techniques work better. if you find yourself having nothing but lucid dreams, and it seems you can't get a true projection, know that there sometimes isn't a lot of difference. lucid dreams can -be- projections, when the mind re-translates your astral surroundings into dream terrain.. so if you are a person prone to lucids, keep up the good work, and eventually you will find yourself having a full blown projection. I would just use the time in your lucid dreams to develope usefull skills, such as combat skills and flying, or creating objects. guides and dragons can also wedge themselves into regular lucid dreams and contact you, so again, if you can't quite get a true astral experience, be happy with what you have. eventually you can learn to quick-switch out of lucid consciousness and simply step right into an out of body one. often it will take a short trip back to the body, where you can finish unhooking completely, then you are out and free.
